Dear Overberg Agri clients
2020 has been a difficult year on several fronts, but through the grace of God, we are grateful that our business has managed to persevere. Despite all of the challenges experienced this year, there have been a few notable events that have signalled hope for our industry.
As a result of the better climatic conditions experienced within the Overberg Agri service area in 2020, the Western Cape is expected to report one of the biggest winter grain, barley and canola harvests in recent history. Current prices are also at levels higher than during the past several seasons, which is expected to boost economic growth in rural areas. In addition, following a notable recovery to 51 points in quarter three of 2020, the Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index also rose to 61 points in quarter four, which is its highest level since quarter three of 2014.
This festive season, may we continue to hold on to hope—hope for a better tomorrow and hope for a prosperous 2021. The timeless truth of the Bible reminds us that our hope doesn’t hinge on the surety of the sunrise, but on the dependability of the risen son.
On behalf of our executive team, I would like to wish you and your families a merry Christmas and a wonderful new year, filled with joy, success and good health.
I look forward to working with you in 2021.
Kind regards
Francois Joubert
Managing Director of Overberg Agri
