Ruminant Day 2025 – Swartland Bulk & Blêr: A Day of Insight and Connection

27 June 2025 | Information Day, News

On 25 June 2025, the Hopefield Sports Club became the meeting ground for ruminant farmers, experts, and industry partners at Overberg Agri’s Ruminant Day Swartland Bulk & Blêr. The day highlighted practical knowledge, scientific insight, and farmer experiences – all focused on advancing sheep and cattle production in the region.

Programme Highlights

After a warm welcome, the day kicked off with a series of presentations that tackled key aspects of ruminant production. Suzanne Lureman of Overberg Agri opened the session with valuable insights into the role of stubble lands in feed production. She was followed by Dr Josef van Wyngaard of Voermol, who explored the feeding and management of the pregnant ruminant. Dr Natanya Smit of Zoetis then addressed the vital role of vaccines and immunity in breeding animals, while Dr Frikkie Maré of the RPO explained the many factors that determine the price of a chop. The session concluded with Nick Pentz of Groote Post, who highlighted why Angus Beef has become the consumer’s choice.

The presentations ended with a lively panel discussion moderated by Suzanne Lureman, where questions from the audience deepened the conversations and gave practical relevance to the day’s themes.

Beyond the Talks

The day also offered farmers the chance to browse exhibitor stands, view livestock, and connect with peers. With a buzzing tent and vibrant atmosphere, the mix of practical demonstrations and informal discussions provided as much value as the formal programme.
