When the Harvest Turns Pink, There’s a Bigger Story to Tell
Harvest time in the Overberg is usually a familiar picture: tractors moving between fields, grain arriving at silos and the steady activity that comes with bringing in a season’s hard work. But this year, there’s an unexpected splash of colour among it all.
Bright pink grain storage bags are becoming part of the landscape, and they’re doing more than storing grain. They’re helping start conversations that matter.

More Than Just a Pink Grain Bag
At Overberg Agri, we believe that being part of an agricultural community means looking after more than the harvest. It means caring about the people, families and communities who make it all possible.
That’s why we’ve partnered with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) to bring cancer awareness into the heart of the harvest season.
On 7 October 2026, the first pink grain storage bags were filled at our Protem Grain Silo. The campaign also extends to selected grain facilities in the Overberg, including Lemoenskop, Ouplaas, Bredasdorp, Napier and Rietpoel.

Whether seen from the road, from a tractor or from above, the long rows of pink bags are difficult to miss. And that’s exactly the idea. Every bag is an opportunity to remind someone of the importance of looking after their health.

A Conversation Worth Having
Cancer touches the lives of people across every community. In farming communities, where busy schedules and long working days are part of everyday life, it’s easy to put personal health further down the priority list.
Our campaign is a simple reminder that taking time to pay attention to our health matters too.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while November brings a focus on men’s health and cancer awareness. Through our pink grain bags, awareness materials, retail branches and communication platforms, we hope to keep these important conversations going.

Giving the Bags Another Purpose
There’s another meaningful part to this initiative. Once the grain storage bags have served their purpose, they will be recycled, and the proceeds from the recycling will be donated to CANSA on behalf of Overberg Agri.
It’s a practical way to turn something used during the harvest into support for an organisation that plays an important role in cancer education, awareness and care.

A Healthy Harvest Starts Early
Anyone involved in agriculture knows that a successful harvest doesn’t happen overnight. It takes planning, attention and recognising when something needs to be done.
Our health deserves that same attention.
Being aware of changes, recognising potential warning signs and seeking medical advice early can make a meaningful difference.
A Healthy Harvest Starts Early.

So, the next time you spot one of our pink grain storage bags in the Overberg, we hope it serves as a reminder to start a conversation, share information or simply take a moment to think about your health and the health of those close to you.
Because behind every harvest are people who matter.
